Rubies have been prized for centuries, but of all the varieties of rubies, Burmese rubies are the most prominent, primarily because of their color. They come from Burma, a Southeast Asian country now known as Myanmar. These mines were famous for producing about 90 percent of all «Pigeon’s Blood» rubies. Unfortunately, these mines in Burma are nearly depleted, making Burmese rubies rare and expensive. Owning a Burmese ruby these days can be increasingly difficult.

For centuries rubies have been exposed to heat treatment to enhance their color. This is considered a stable and permanent improvement.

Ruby is the second hardest stone on the Mohs scale after diamond. It has a 9 hardness which makes it perfect for all types of jewelry. Ruby is one of the stones preferred by investors, auction houses and collectors

When cutting a Round Cut ruby, it is important to maintain the structural integrity of the gem. Inclusions can be seen when the ruby is viewed from the top. Therefore, the goal of the cutter is to minimize the inclusions in the center of the ruby while also minimizing the waste of the rough ruby.
