Alexandrite was discovered in the Ural in 1830 and its name honors Tsar Alexander II. Its two colors: green and red, were the Russian imperial colors. Alexandrite is one of the more expensive stones and sought after for its extraordinary peculiarity of changing its color from green to red depending on the light that illuminates it. The price of an Alexandrite, pure and with a good color change, can reach the same level as a diamond of the same size.

This Oval Alexandrite 0.80 ct. comes from Brazil. For many years Alexandrite was almost impossible to find due to the lack of deposits. In 1987 a new Alexandrite deposit was found in Hematite, Brazil. The Alexandrite from Brazil is very appreciated and sought after because of its amazing color change tones.

Alexandrite is called the "Chameleon Stone" and also "Beautiful by Day, Beautiful by Night" because its colors change according to the nature of the light that illuminates it, bluish green in daylight and under incandescent light, raspberry red for the rarest and most beautiful as this Oval Alexandrite 0.80 ct. This unique color change is generated thanks to its slight impurities in the composition, produced by the element chromium. Alexandrite is so unique that few people have seen a natural one.

Only diamonds, rubies, and sapphires are harder than Alexandrite, making it an ideal stone for jewelry. Its hardness on the Mohs scale is 8.5

The Oval cut is common for Alexandrite, as in this Oval Alexandrite 0.80 ct. from Brazil. However, it is a challenge for the cutter, in order to orient the gem so that it shows its strongest color change through the crown.
